A.V. Kamalamma college is recognized as one of the Best
Educational institutions for women in Davangere district
for its excellence in this college. And department of Urdu
took its birth in the year 1967.
History of the Department :
Department of urdu is established with the inception of
the college itself i.e., in 1967. A newly established department
was inaugurated by prof. Ataulla khan. The department lecturer
Mrs. Afzal Unisa to A.R.G. college of Arts and commerce,
Davangere. Prof. Ataulla Khan from D.R.M. Science college,
Davangere, was transferred to this department again in 1993.
Mrs. Afzal Unisa was transferred to this department from
A.R.G. college of Arts and commerce, Davangere and she retired
from her services in 2007.
After the retirement of Prof. Afzal Unisa, Prof. Mohammed
Habibulla was transferred from A.R.G college to A.V.K college,
Davanagere. In 2012. Prof. Mohammed Habibulla was transferred
to M.S.B College of Arts & Commerce Davanagere as principal.
In his place Dr. Khaleel Ahmed was transferred from M.S.B.
College to A.V.K. College Davangere. Presently he is working
as Associate professor and Head of the Department.
The Urdu students Association of the said department regularly
conducts the functions and seminars, to highlight the importance
of Urdu language and literature.Urdu association in which
A.V.K College is a member associate, conducts various activities
for all level of students from primary under graduate level
literary Programmes like Urdu debates, Ghazal, Essays, Quiz
competitions etc are organized. Students of Urdu department
won the literary prizes in competitions by Urdu Association,
Davangere, in 2013-2014 and 2015 and got the "All Karnataka
Allama Iqbal rolling shield".
Urdu is the language of National unity and finds
more scope in forth coming days. Students of the department
have lot of scope to become teachers, lecturers in PU colleges,
as well as in degree colleges & Universities.
